South African mobile operator MTN has announced it will be offering unlimited streaming of radio personality Gareth Cliff’s WeChat show CliffCentral.
HumanIPO reported last week MTN had introduced a number of new internet offerings – all with free access to Wikipedia and Twitter – including Chat, Social Networking, Smartphone Lite and Smartphone Plus.
“The free streaming of CliffCentral on WeChat is available to all MTN customers who have purchased one of the revamped MTN internet services. No data limits will apply to the free streaming service of CliffCentral with the promotion running until June 30, 2014,” Brian Gouldie, chief marketing officer (CMO) at MTN SA said.
He said subscribers would first need to download the WeChat app through the app store of their preference.
CliffCentral launched at the beginning of this month on WeChat and DStv’s Comedy Central Africa, with Cliff saying he was negotiating with mobile operators to make streaming the show economically accessible.
“This promotion can be attributed to the close working relationship that exists between MTN and over-the-top content providers. It provides MTN customers with the perfect opportunity to embrace this innovative streaming service and enrich their lives with value-added content,” said Gouldie.
“WeChat is one of the fastest growing platforms and, coupled with the excitement that Gareth Cliff brings, this free access will go a long way in providing our customers with access to the ever-evolving digital world,” he said.
