The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has said Hlaudi Motsoeneng has not been reinstated to the position of acting Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Various reports, including one from The New Age, have stated SABC chairperson Ben Ngubane had confirmed Motsoeneng was back in the acting COO position.
“The decision to re-instate Hlaudi was made by my deputy Thami Ka Plaatjie after he decided to withdraw his letter to the minister” Ngubane was quoted saying.
HumanIPO reported last week Mike Siluma had replaced Motsoeneng, who was moved back to his previous position as group executive of stakeholder relations and provinces.
Despite these reports, the SABC confirmed in a statement, “The report… is regrettable as neither the chairman nor the deputy chairman nor both have the power or authority to unilaterally change a board resolution.”
It continued to state that this kind of provision does not exist in the Broadcasting Act of 1999, Companies Act of 2008, Articles of Association or draft Memorandum of Incorporation.
After the decision to replace Motsoeneng as COO had been made last week, the group chief executive accepted the decision and a courtesy letter was drafted for both shareholders and Motsoeneng.
Since then, the board has not met to withdraw the decision nor do the reports about Motsoeneng being “reinstated” have any effect on the decision taken at a properly convened board meeting, the SABC said.
