USAASA denies ANC interference claims

The Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) has denied claims made by former executive manager Mmatlou Morudu of interference by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in the agency’s affairs.

HumanIPO reported earlier this week on claims made by Morudu published in the Sunday Independent newspaper, which included that he had lost his job for refusing to fund mobile operator Cell C with ZAR500 million (US$48 million) to upgrade eMalahleni Municipality’s communications network as instructed by the ruling party.

In a statement, USAASA said it “regrets the dragging of the ANC in its affairs by some disgruntled and hopeless former employees”.

“In their desperate attempt to extort money from the USAASA, these people have gone beyond insulting the ANC government and graduated to being anti-government agents whose main task is to manufacture lies with a view of discrediting our hard earned democratic institutions,” USAASA said.

“USAASA believes that bringing the name of the ANC in this mud is not necessary, unfortunate, and an indication of mental capacity of the individuals concerned. For the record, the ANC has never issued any instruction to USAASA.”
