Stakeholders in the Nigerian public and private sectors have been advised to invest more in e-learning as a way of unlocking the potential of Nigerian youths.
This call was made by the Director General of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Cleopas Angaye.
He made the call while speaking at a ceremony marking the commissioning of e-learning and 24-hour alternative power solutions infrastructures set up by computer manufacturing company, Omatek, in several academic institutions across the country.
According to Angaye government, with the support of stakeholders, can revolutionise the country’s education sector by fully deploying e-learning suites in the already completed Rural Information Technology Centres sited in around 300 rural communities across Nigeria.
He said: “[The e-learning centers will] also assist to develop knowledge of the internet and computer skills that will help learners throughout their lives and careers.
“Successful completion of online or computer based courses builds self-knowledge and self-confidence and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning.”
These centres can complement similar facilities that already exist in several colleges and other academic institutions of higher learning.
He added the e-learning centres can complement the efforts of the Nigerian teachers by providing additional support such as online studying materials to students in underserved regions.
