The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) has announced it has postponed the Commonwealth Broadband Africa Forum, originally scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, in July, until November over security concerns.
Kenya has seen a spate of bombings in recent weeks, with foreign governments warning against all but essential travel to certain areas of the country and highlighting the threat of terrorism from Somali militant group Al-Shabaab.
Only last week, the East Africa Com event set to take place in Nairobi was postponed due to security concerns, with the organisers rescheduling it for September.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation and the Communications Commission of Kenya have agreed to postpone this event to November 2014. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we look forward to welcoming all interested parties in Nairobi in November,” the CTO said in a statement.
“The CTO would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“We appreciate your continued support and enabling the CTO to continue to deliver ICT interventions to help the marginalised.”
