Co-chairperson of South Africa’s Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) Graham Beneke has been appointed to the National Broadband Advisory Council, saying it is a good opportunity for the organisation to provide an industry perspective as the broadband policy is implemented.
HumanIPO reported earlier this year former communications minister Yunus Carrim had formed the council to advise and support the ministry in the implementation of the country’s broadband policy.
“As the industry body representing the country’s Internet Service Providers, ISPA has much practical insight to offer, and also provides a ready-made channel through which the council and the minister can communicate with an important role-player in the world of broadband,” Beneke said.
“Improving access to broadband, particularly the speeds on offer, is a vital part of enabling growth, and ISPA is pleased to be involved,”
The council is headed by president of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Sibusiso Sibisi, with Alison Gillwald as deputy chair.
Among its members are Arthur Goldstuck of World Wide Worx, Tim Kelly from the World Bank, Rosey Sekese from the Department of Communications (DoC) and Bernie Fanaroff from the SKA Project South Africa.
