A quick Google search for the eMalahleni local municipality reveal the government website’s name has been embarrassingly incorrectly spelled, reading “eMalahleni Local Minicipality.”
Following the controversy surrounding the South African Free State local government’s website, which was exposed as the most expensive website in the country when the Sowetan newspaper initially alleged the WordPress-powered website was tendered to Tumi Ntsele for ZAR140 million (US$15.4 million), a business man believed to be politically connected to the Free State local government, another local government website in the Mpumalanga province has been found to have spelled ‘municipality’ incorrectly.
The Free State local government has since defended their spending, saying the funds were allocated for the redesigning of 38 related sites and will now investigate the matter.
The spelling mistake “Minicipality” only features within the top two Google search results for the government website, which may indicate the name of the website was incorrectly entered during the programming of the site.
The website points to Trinity Graphics as the designer of the website, but it is currently unclear as to whether web design company is aware or responsible for the spelling error.
HumanIPO has contacted Trinity Graphics regarding the matter and is awaiting a response.
The third result of the Google search, which is a Wikipedia page, spells the word correctly.
