PC and tablet manufacturer Asus has announced a number of new hybrid gadgets in a quest to strengthen its innovative product portfolio in Kenya.

The lineup includes the Transformer Book V, Transformer Book Flip and the Transformer Book T300 Chi, and comes at a time when the industry has been experiencing a growing demand of converged products.

According to the company the Transformer Book V is a revolutionary gadget that will address the challenge of consumers handling a multiplicity of products.

“Over time consumers have always wanted to carry a smartphone, a tablet and maybe a laptop PC or an ultrabook on a single platform. The Transformer V, which is the future of convergence, solves this as it merges the three products, all into one,” said Asus Kenya country product manager Chris Wen.

The Transformer Book Flip is a laptop with 360-degree touchscreen that flips in an instant for use as a powerful laptop, a responsive tablet or anything in between, while the Transformer Book T300 Chi is a detachable 2-in-1 laptop with a slim profile.

“The unveiling of the hybrid products lineup shows Asus commitment in advancing our customers’ needs such as entertainment, portability and convenience,” said Wen.

Other than the Transformer Book Flip, which is expected to be launched in Kenya in July, the launch dates and pricing for the other devices have not been revealed yet.

HumanIPO reported last month Asus, buoyed by an increase in its market share in Kenya, has plans to set up an office in the country to consolidate its operations in the country while expanding further across Africa.

Wen told HumanIPO the company commanded a three per cent market share in Kenya for the first quarter of 2014, fifth behind Toshiba, Dell, Hewlett Packard (HP), Acer and Lenovo but a significant increase from last year when the company had 0.01 per cent.
