The Xbox One will be available in South Africa as of September 23, Microsoft has announced, with the console and a single controller to retail at ZAR6,299.99 (US$588).
HumanIPO reported in March Microsoft said it would roll out the Xbox One to 26 new countries in September, with South Africa the only African country listed among the new markets to gain access to the console, but did not provide any information as to price and packages to be made available.
“We’re excited to officially confirm that Xbox One will be available in South Africa on the 23rd of September starting at R6299.99. Every Xbox One system will include the Xbox One console — which features a 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray player and built-in Wi-Fi — one Xbox One Wireless Controller and a free 14-day trial of Xbox Live Gold for new members,” Microsoft said.
The motion sensing device Kinect can be added to the console, with this package to retail at ZAR7,999 (US$747).
The manufacturer said customers opting for the Kinect package will receive an enhanced Xbox One experience, with Kinect enabling gesture controls, biometric sign-in, controller pairing, as well as extra features such as access to Skype video calls, instant personalisation, and scanning of QR codes.
A range of Xbox One games will also be available as of the launch date in South Africa, including “Forza Horizon 2” and “Halo: The Master Chief Collection”, which will include access to the “Halo 5: Guardians” multiplayer beta.
Microsoft said Kinect users will enjoy an enhanced gaming experience through games such as “Kinect Sports Rivals”, “Dead Rising 3”, and “Project Spark”.
