South African social app Mxit reached one million downloads on BlackBerry phones yesterday (Thursday, March 7) 84 days after its release.
Originally launched on November 29, 2012, the success of the Mxit 6.3 version developed for BlackBerry adds to the popularity of BlackBerry phones as one of the top five handsets used for Mxit.
The newest Mxit version 6.4 was released on Android in January, 2013.
Android, however, does not make it into the top 20 used devices for Mxit, with 94,355 downloads since its launch.
HumanIPO reported on the Beta release of Mxit Launch on March 1, on which developers can build apps.
Initially started in 2005 as a solution for affordable mobile messaging, the app has developed with various entertainment, social and extended app features to maintain its position as South Africa’s largest social network.
