As part of the Adopt-a-School initiative, the Cloudseed Company has installed a new PC lab at the Lesirane Primary School School in Botswana.
Since the inception of the Adopt-a-School initiative in November 2011 by Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, the Botswana government has saved BWP160 million (approximately US$19.5million).
Patrick Masimolole, the assistant minister of education and skills development in Botswana, said at the official launch of the PC lab at the school in Mogoditshane that the computer laboratory is a crucial resource in terms of learning and teaching.
“My ministry advocates a system of quality education that is able to adapt to the changing needs of Botswana. I am very happy that Cloudseed shares this vision with us and saw it fit to invest in one of our schools to try and drive our mandate of providing all schools with computers and computer based communications such as internet services,” said Masimolole.
The Cloudseed Company was set up as an ICT joint venture for the purpose of providing 2,200 schools in Gauteng, South Africa, with internet connectivity as part of the Gauteng Online Program, but it has since moved into Botswanan projects.
The initiative in Mogoditshane included 25 donated computers, an installed satellite connection, 25 LCD screens, 30 Wyse clients and brackets, sound splitters among others.
Furthermore the Cloudseed Company installed all the electrical reticulation, air conditioning and palisade fencing around the satellite as well as free internet services for 12 months.
All the technology donated and installed by the Cloudseed Company was placed at an estimated cost of BWP243,000 (US$29,716).
