Tablets responsible for more global web traffic than smartphones

Tablets are now accounting for a larger percentage of global web traffic than smartphones, according to the latest Adobe Digital Index report.

For the report, more than 100 billion visits to more than 1,000 websites were analysed and showed eight per cent of web traffic came from tablets and seven per cent from smartphones.

Adobe said that they had been observing how quickly the tablets have become popular for online shopping.

“Just a year ago, in January, we uncovered that visitors using tablets spend 54 per cent more per online order than their counterparts on smartphones, and 19 per cent more than desktop/laptop users”, Adobe said.

Adobe added this discovery has also proved that tablets have become a primary device for mobile browsing, as well as being the preferred devices for in-depth browsing.

Although web traffic from smartphones and tablets is increasingly growing, PC’s continue to dominate with web traffic of 84 per cent.

The findings for this report are also said to be advantageous for websites and marketers.

The report added: “Consumers all over the world are trying out their tablets for the first time and it only takes one bad website experience for them to decide to go elsewhere.”

Consumers prefer tablets because of the personalized experience and the ability to engage with the content, added Adobe.
