Internet Solutions acquires ContinuitySA

South African internet service provider (ISP) Internet Solutions (IS) has announced the acquisition of business continuity management company ContinuitySA (CSA) for an undisclosed sum.

IS said the acquisition will benefit both companies through the leveraging of key infrastructural assets as well as professional services capability.

The move gives IS access to a vast amount of extra data centre space in South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and Mauritius, adding to its pre-existing data business in South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.

The company said the acquisition will provide clients with “greater depth and breadth of business continuity management services and IT disaster recovery services, data replication, syndicated hardware, and work area recovery services”.

“There are a number of areas where the combined offerings of both companies will provide clients with a single end to end provider of services with enhanced delivery capability,’ said IS chief solutions officer (CSO) Sean Nourse.

“For example, CSA’s work area recovery services provide highly secure facilities and this combined with IS’s capability to deliver immediate communications services through its VoIP [Voice over Internet Protocol] solutions, means businesses will be able remain online and employees productive during any disruptive situation.”

The acquisition will see CSA continue to retain the brand and function autonomously while being led by company chief executive officer (CEO) Michael Davies.

“Business continuity is top of the C-suite agenda these days, not only in South Africa but across the continent. IS’s network and data centre infrastructure across the continent, combined with CSA’s professional services, business continuity and IT disaster recovery expertise, will ensure that clients throughout Africa will have access to world class services,” said Davies.

IS has bought into a number of companies this year, most recently taking full ownership of Wi-Fi provider AlwaysOn.

Earlier this year the company bought a “significant stake” in streaming media service Antfarm.
