Over 50 per cent of Facebook employees are White, while over two-thirds are male, according the company’s diversity statistics.
Releasing diversity numbers has become commonplace among tech companies of late, with both Yahoo! and Google revealing their numbers in the past few months.
Both companies highlighted the need for transformation, with the majority of employees being White males.
Now Facebook has followed suit, revealing that only four per cent and two per cent of its workforce are Hispanic and Black respectively.
It also said that just 31 per cent of employees are women.
“As these numbers show, we have more work to do – a lot more,”Maxine Williams, global head of diversity at Facebook, said.
“Since our strategic diversity team launched last year, we’re already seeing improved new hire figures and lower attrition rates for underrepresented groups,” she said.
The company revealed over three-quarters of senior management are White males.
Facebook said it has launched a number of initiatives to combat the lack of diversity at the company, including expanding its internship programme to focus on underrepresented individuals who demonstrate an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and computer science-related fields.
“We have a long way to go, but we’re absolutely committed to achieving greater diversity at Facebook and across the industry,” Williams said.
