The Competition Authority of Kenya is reviewing a case brought by Airtel against leading operator Safaricom over the pricing of mobile money services.

HumanIPO reported last month Airtel asked the Competition Authority to investigate Safaricom for alleged abuse of its position at the head of the East African country’s booming mobile money market.

Airtel says Safaricom’s charges to its customers when sending money to Airtel Money accounts was double the amount of that required for Safaricom-to-Safaricom transactions.

Business Daily reportsCompetition Authority of Kenya director general Wangombe Kariuki as saying the case was being reviewed.

“The report is currently with the board and we expect them to approve it by the end of this week,” he said. “I cannot comment on its content.”
