Communications Minister Dina Pule says Hlaudi Motsoeneng is still acting chief operations officer (COO) of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) until a meeting with an agenda following corporate principles takes place.
The minister told SAfm that she was working on finding solutions to the ongoing crisis at the SABC.
Chairman Ben Ngubane and his deputy Thami Ka Plaatjie resigned earlier this week following disagreements over the removal of Motsoeneng from his post.
HumanIPO reported earlier this week Pule was attempting to persuade the pair to withdraw their resignations, though Pule today said it was President Zuma who would be responding and she would encourage him to accept.
She said the board leaders have “blind copied me but written to the president. As a result I’m not the person who could respond to them.
“I will encourage him to release them (chairperson and his deputy),” she said.
Any meeting to decide on the future course of the SABC cannot be held until a new board is constituted, she said.
“We cannot seek a meeting, without a chairperson and deputy chairperson, we have no board.”
