Kenya police, military hunt Twitter account hackers

The Kenyan police and military are collaborating to hunt down the hackers who two days ago hacked the Kenya Defence Forces Twitter account and sent offensive messages.

HumanIPO reported earlier this week the Twitter account of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) had been hacked and was tweeting anti-corruption, anti-tribalism and anti-poaching messages while also criticising the country’s elected officials, with the Anonymous group claiming responsibility.

However, speaking to Capital FM a military official said they believe the hackers are “tech-savvy locals” and not outsiders given the content of the Tweets, adding they had already complained to Twitter administrators about the “escalating insults” in a bid to restore the accounts.

Major Emmanuel Chirchir, the military liaison officer whose account was also hacked, moved to assure the public and urged them not to take the Tweets seriously.
