Oracle to acquire SA’s Nimbula

US software firm Oracle is to acquire South African startup Nimbula, in an effort to strengthen its cloud offerings.

Though the cost of the deal is not disclosed, Oracle said in an official blog post it was buying cloud infrastructure management software maker Nimbula to complement its existing products.

“Nimbula’s technology helps companies manage infrastructure resources to deliver service, quality and availability, as well as workloads in private and hybrid cloud environments,” says Oracle.

Oracle recently announced its intention to acquire Acme Packet for US$2.1 billion, with 11 similar announcements made in 2011.

Nimbula, currently headquartered in Mountain View, California, describes itself as a “cloud computing company that delivers a new class of cloud infrastructure software for building Amazon EC2-like private, hybrid or public cloud.”
