The organisers of this year’s DEMO Africa technology startup conference are not worried about reported Ebola cases in host city for this year’s event, Lagos, Nigeria, and said the outbreak of the virus is not affecting planning of the event.
Speaking to HumanIPO, Harry Hare, executive producer of DEMO Africa said the organisers are relying on the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO), US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as Nigerian authorities that Nigeria is still safe to travel to.
“Both WHO and CDC still indicate that Nigeria is safe to travel, so [Ebola] has not affected our planning,” said Hare.
“We follow their advisory and also information from the Nigerian authorities,” he said.
HumanIPO reported in March, the DEMO Africa organizers announced this year’s event would be held in Lagos – moving from the conference’s traditional host city of Nairobi, Kenya.
The conference is due to take place between September 22 and 26, with startups from across Africa to be showcased.
