South African marketing and media awards The Loerie Awards opened a new digital category, available for entry from today, March 18.
Digital entries consist of four subcategories, namely Digital and Interaction Communication, Mobile Communication, Digital Mixed-Media Campaign and Internet, Mobile and Interactive Crafts.
HumanIPO reported last month on the collaborative compilation of digital categories for The Loeries Awards with the help of Jarred Cinman, steerco chairman at the Digital Marketing and Media Association (DMMA).
Internet advertising, email marketing, web- and microsites, social media as well as digital activations, applications and interactive tools will be eligible for entries under the division of Digital and Interaction Communication.
Mobile Communication is divided into mobile advertising and mobile applications and sites, whereas Internet Mobile and Interactive Crafts has six defining threads, including best use of technology, animation and interface and navigation.
Cross-category entries are permitted.
The new addition to the traditional award categories was decided upon as media and marketing become increasingly digitalised, according to Malefa Motitswe, production coordinator at The Loeries Awards.
Moderation of entries will occur in mid-September, followed by the gala evening a week later in Cape Town.
