Bantu Babel Android App published by the Bongo Hive team in Zambia

As a result of the Random Hacks of Kindness hackathon, The Peace Corps Innovation Challenge Hackathon, which was held at BongoHive, Lusaka’s Technology and Innovation Hub, the Bantu Babel App has been created.

Bantu Babel is an African Language Translation Android mobile app that allows users to translate words and get translations of useful survival phrases in popular African languages into English.

Currently the app offers translation in all seven major Zambian Languages with plans in place to add more African languages.

Apart from word translation, the app also has a collection of some useful travel/survival phrases which can come in handy for common situations that visitors to Zambia could find themselves in.

These “Survival Phrases” are organised into various useful categories.

Bantu Babel is available in the following languages: Bemba, Kikaonde, Lozi, Lunda, Mambwe, Nyanja, Tonga, Tumbuka.
