Samsung South Africa has backtracked on the official announcement it had signed a deal with MultiChoice to integrate DStv decoders into its televisions.
HumanIPO reported last week the two companies had used the 2013 Samsung Africa Forum to announce the partnership, which would also see MultiChoice’s new digital television service GoTV sold in Samsung outlets stores.
A memorandum of understanding was signed on stage, an official Samsung press release put out to announce the strategic partnership and details of the deal were tweeted.
But a Samsung spokesperson subsequently confirmed there is no commitment between MultiChoice and Samsung to build the decoders into televisions, with the agreement stating “all parties shall investigate in good faith the feasibility of such opportunities”.
Samsung also tweeted to clarify the situation.
The @dstv decoder solution is an innovation we have researched and will would like to bring to you in the future #AfricaForum
