Zimbabwe ministry site hacked

The Zimbabwean Ministry of Mines and Mining Development website was hacked yesterday, March 18, by Turkish hacker Musti Reis.

Designed by Government Internet Service Provider (GISP), the site appears to contain all the usual information with additional marks of defacement.

The line “hacked by muStireiS” appears on a few prominent places on the site as spotted by TechZim.

While the cause is still unknown, there has been speculation on the negligence of default passwords and “unpatched vulnerabilities in the content system”.

There has been no comment from the GISP, which runs 30 out of the 32 government ministry websites.

The GISP also hosts the Zimbabwean e-governance programme. According to govTechnology, this hacking adds to more than 70 recent attacks on similar sites.
