Videoconference to discuss West African broadband internet initiatives

Steven Institute of Technology will hold a videoconferencing session in mid-April to discuss the broadband opportunities in West Africa.

The conference will provide a discussion platform on developments in the communications capability in West Africa for institutions providing education, health care delivery and basic services.

The videoconference will include renowned researchers and scientists from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

It includes Dr Victor Lawrence, a researcher at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is currently leading internet development efforts in West Africa that are opening up opportunities in the region.

The videoconferencing will be supported by Blackboard Collaborate which enables the creation of virtual classrooms. Communication can be supported by the use of Voice over IP (VoIP), text chat, webcam, virtual whiteboard, screen sharing and guided web tours.

The web conferencing platform also allows for up to six simultaneous visual and voice speakers to foster real time collaboration on a global scale. The general public can also view and raise questions through the videoconference.
