Presidency.gov.za confirms Mandela hospitalised, Twitter reacts

The South African presidency has confirmed via its official website that Nelson Mandela has been readmitted to hospital, prompting an outpouring of concern on Twitter.

A statement issued by the Presidency on its website confirmed the former president has been admitted to hospital due to a recurrence of a lung infection.

President Zuma assured the public that Madiba – as is his popularly used clan name – is being given best treatment in hospital, and asked the country to pray for him.

“We appeal to the people of South Africa and the world to pray for our beloved Madiba and his family and to keep them in their thoughts. We have full confidence in the medical team and know that they will do everything possible to ensure recovery,” wrote Zuma.

Worried Twitter users have flocked to the microblogging site to show their concern for Mandela, wishing him a quick recovery.
