Kenyan Chief Justice receives record retweets

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga’s tweet ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on Saturday received 1656 retweets from eager members of the public and could be among the most retweeted posts in Kenyan history.

After two weeks of waiting for the ruling of whether the election process was carried out in accordance to the constitution Kenyans woke up early ready to receive the judgment to be delivered by the president of the Supreme Court.

And with anxiety rife the chief justice decided to tell the public as to when they should await the judgement with the constitution leaving a leeway of up to 12 midnight.

Chief justice Mutunga who has 126,970 followers on Twitter posted minutes before the registrar of the high court called a press conference to give the same information with many on twitter terming the act a miscommunication.

Apart from the CJ several other related government agencies used social media mainly urging for Kenyans to maintain peace.

The government spokesman Muthui Kariuki used his account to deliver congratulatory messages from foreign governments including that by the United Kingdom.
