Integrated telecommunications services provider Telkom Kenya has confirmed the appointment of Maureen Sande as its new chief corporate communications officer.
Sande said she will be venturing in new opportunity areas as she improves the communications channels of Kenya’s oldest telecom.
“Over the years, the business has grown as a Telco that is keen on revolutionising the industry by identifying strategic niches and positions to better improve its service and product offering. It is now, therefore my role to further exploit strategic avenues and channels of communication and engagement, contributing to a strengthened value proposition to all our stakeholders,” she said.
Sande has served a number of other organisations, some in the same capacity, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), British American Tobacco (BAT), UNAIDS and Ogilvy Public Relations Kenya.
She has hit the ground running with announcement that Orange will be a category sponsor for this year’s Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) Awards.
The awards ceremony, honouring Kenya’s tech and blogging community, has witnessed a marked increase in the number of entries this year to 450 from 300 in 2012 with the introduction of new categories.
Sande said the company has chosen to take a leading role in promoting digital inclusion in Kenya even as it promotes professionalism that generates credible content.
“Practitioners and experts in different fields are increasingly contributing to online content generation in Kenya, and predominantly through blogging. The digital space is gaining dominance as source of information: current affairs, business, technology, fashion, history, niche areas especially on professional content,” she said.
