Apple to launch iTV, iRing remote – rumours

Apple may be developing an iTV together with a ring-shaped controller for launch later this year, according to the latest reports.

The new rumours say an Apple television set is to be launched in the second half of 2013 which will “revolutionise the TV experience”, and that the TV will be controlled by a hitherto unreported device – the iRing.

AppleInsider claims to have received information from Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets, who recently met with Apple suppliers in China and Taiwan, leading the analyst to make the predictions.

According to White, television users will wear the iRing on their finger, replacing the traditional remote control through motion sensor technology.

The television will also come with a second smaller screen – a “mini iTV” – measuring 9.7 inches, allowing users to move around within a certain range of the main iTV while still accessing content, says White.

“Essentially, we believe the ‘mini iTV’ screens will be able to capture content from the 60-inch ‘iTV’ across a distance of up to 200 meters, allowing a user to view ‘iTV’ content in the kitchen, washroom, garage, bedroom, backyard, etc,” AppleInsider quotes White as saying.

“We believe Apple will offer one ‘mini iTV’ per ‘iTV,’ but package options will include up to four screens (i.e., one screen is part of the standard package and pay extra for each additional.”
