Fourth AfPIF to promote cross-border African relations

The fourth annual African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) will take place from September 3 to 5 in Casablanca, Morocco, with its focus on policy aspects of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), content and cross-border interconnections in Africa.

Organised by the Internet Society, the event intends to address the issues of internet infrastructure challenges.

Topics on the agenda includes terrestrial capacity issues, local content development and possibilities of more affordable connectivity.

Themed around Policy Implementation and the Regional Content Factor, the conference aims to find solutions on region-to-region policies with regards to content and traffic challenges.

Dawit Bekele, regional bureau director of Africa at Internet Society, said: “AfPIF offers the ideal venue for discussions and ideas on how to implement more efficient and cost effective local, regional, and international interconnection and peering strategies.”

Bekele believes AfPIF and similar forums offer a major opportunity of peering and interconnection agreements as the society hopes to connect communities with business for collaborative progress on the grounds of infrastructure.

The event is endorsed by the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade, and New Technologies.
