ABSA will be launching their long awaited banking app at an event in Johannesburg next Wednesday.
The invitation states ABSA Retail Bank’s head of digital channels and payments, Adrian Vermooten, will be unveiling ABSA’s “latest technology” at the “official launch of the banking App from ABSA”.
HumanIPO reported on March 11 Evans Munyuki, head of IT: retail and business bank (RBB) in architecture and innovation of ABSA and Barclays Africa, told the Future Bank Africa 2013 conference their app, Hello Money, was due within 30 days.
Details are still scarce as to which platforms the app will run on, but while speaking in Johannesburg last month Munyuki hinted it would be available on all smartphone platforms.
ABSA have been accused by many technology commentators of lagging behind as far as offering their retail banking customers an alternative, on-the-go form of banking in the form of a smartphone banking app.
Many ABSA customers have also vented their frustrations on the absence of a banking app from the South African bank, with one customer deciding last year to develop his own banking app for ABSA out of frustration.
