Safaricom has welcomed the ICT plans set out in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration speech, with the company keen to work with the government to achieve 100 day plan objectives.
Speaking to HumanIPO, Bob Collymore, chief executive officer (CEO) of Safaricom, affirmed his support for the new president’s plans, adding the company has long believed in the power of technology to transform the country.
Collymore revealed Safaricom hopes to be a partner in the government’s ICT-related plans.
“We very much look forward to working with the new Government to help achieve the goals outlined in the President’s inaugural speech [today],” Collymore said.
“We have always been a firm believer in the transformative power of ICT and welcome the President’s emphasis on enabling young people’s access to communications technology as an essential catalyst for growth.”
Kenyatta yesterday pledged to provide one laptop per child entering Form One next year, and also highlighted the need to capitalise on technologies to advance Kenya, including by achieving food security with the help of technology to improve agricultural efficiencies.
Collymore added his congratulations to Kenyatta upon his election.
“Of course, we offer our hearty congratulations to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto,” Collymore said.
