Production of the fifth-generation iPad is set to begin in July or August this year, according to a report by DigiTimes.
The report, citing sources close to Taiwan-based supply chain companies, claims the iPad 5 will be thinner and lighter than the iPad 4.
However, the source pointed out the “yield rates” for important parts of the tablet, such as touch panels, could be “a major concern for smooth production”.
LG Display and Sharp are likely to be the suppliers of the display, with Taiwanese firm TPK carrying out the touch panel assembly.
Meanwhile, Nowhereelse.fr published images today of what it claims are the bezel of the new iPad, with narrower side edges than current models.
