eNCA launches online news portal

eNCA today launched an online portal to provide local, regional and international news, in a bid to provide a comprehensive and interactive news offering.

The website will feature up-to-date news and features in various formats, including video content, as well as a number of other sections such as weather, sports, and lifestyle.

Users will be able to catch-up on missed broadcasted video content via the new on-demand element of the website.

“We approached the site from a visual perspective and have created a truly multimedia experience with extensive video content as well as text and image stories,” said Timothy Spira, eNCA Online Division General Manager.

“We are proud to extend eNCA’s unique brand of news content into an exciting new medium. The site will carry the world-class stories viewers have come to expect from the channel, giving viewers an enhanced experience and richer context to each story.”

In efforts to extend a more interactive experience, eNCA figures – including weatherman Derek van Dam, political commentator Justice Malala, news veteran Debora Patta and anchor Eleni Giokas – will write blogs on the site, and TV anchors and journalists will be able to engage with their audience via the website.

“eNCA.com will offer news from a different angle… Viewers will now have access to trusted and easily accessible content at their fingertips, presented in a style that is fully integrated with the broadcast product,” Spiro added.

The website will be accessible from desktop devices, but also has a strong mobile platform to allow for access via tablets and mobile.

“We’re on television streamed globally around the world, and now have a compelling online and mobile offering. Previously, broadband constraints prevented us from delivering a video-rich web experience, but South Africa is catching up quickly,” said Patrick Conroy, group head of news.
