Google launches voice navigation for Android and iOS in Kenya

Google has officially unveiled the voice navigation for Android and iOS platforms in Kenya, taking the map experience to another level.

Mobile phone users can now use the voice recognition available in the application to say where they would like to go. The application will then direct them through a voice navigation system to their destination.

The application will run on Android 2.2 (or above) and iOS 5.1 (or above) and is available on a beta release for users in the country.

“Google Maps Navigation (Beta) uses phone Internet connection to give the latest maps and driving directions with a free application. Google’s navigation tool is regularly updated with the most recent data from Google Maps, which means users will not be required to purchase map upgrades or manually update their devices,” the company said.

This is the latest drive to make Google’s Map products relevant to Africa, which has been lagging behind in the technology.

Earlier this month, the company made an announcement stating they would improve the Google Map experience for Africa. Google has already launched Street View in South Africa and Botswana and will be aiming for more African countries.
