Adam Orth, a creative director at Microsoft, has resigned after a week of controversy following comments about the new next-generation Xbox.
Orth was forced to apologise after he appeared to confirm a rumour the new Xbox will require an always-on internet connection, sparking controversy, causing concern amongst fans.
GameInformer is now reporting Orth has voluntarily stood down.
Microsoft is rumoured to be releasing the new Xbox in May, with HumanIPO reporting earlier today on speculation it will contain a feature allowing it to take over a television and set-top box.
The company issued an apology after Orth’s initial comments.
“We apologise for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday,” Microsoft said.
“This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer-centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter.”
