A teenager in Zimbabwe committed suicide when her mobile phone was withdrawn from her due to its interference with her studies.
The Herald Newspaper in Zimbabwe reports the incident happened on Sunday April 7, after 15-year-old Nokulunga Sibanda’s mother insisted she concentrated on her studies, confiscating her mobile phone.
“On April 6 at about 8pm, Mrs. Sibanda withdrew a cellphone from her child Nokulunga alleging that it was disturbing her from concentrating on her studies, after which they retired to bed,” assistant inspector Christopher Ngwenya said.
“It seems this issue of the cellphone did not go down well with Nokulunga who then hanged herself from a tree branch at around 10.15am while her sister was busy cooking in the kitchen.”
The matter was reported to the police for investigations on the day of the incident.
