Microsoft seem intent on joining the smartwatch club after suppliers reportedly let slip the computing giant had asked them to send touch-based components.
HumanIPO has reported both Samsung and Apple are developing smartwatch devices and now, according to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft have entered the race. There have also been reports Google are exploring the idea.
The WSJ cites sources at a supplier of components to Microsoft who reportedly met with their research and development team in Washington.
Jan Dawson, an analyst at Ovum, said: “It’s not surprising that Microsoft is working on a smartwatch.
“Any time Apple enters a category, it tends to blow up, and because the rumors have been out there for so long, there’s been plenty of time for others to jump in.”
None of the above companies have announced plans to launch a smartwatch product, nor have they officially confirmed any of the rumours that they are in development.
