SEACOM has announced the damage its Mediterranean cables sustained at the end of last month is expected to be fixed by early next week.
In a statement released yesterday, the company said the repair vessel had been commissioned to the repair site and work was expected to be completed by April 22.
“This [repair date] will be confirmed once the vessel reaches the location of the expected break and the team has assessed the damage to the subsea cable system,” the statement said, though it warned dates were subject to change due to weather conditions.
SEACOM suffered major outages due to cable cuts last month, with chief executive officer Mark Simpson telling HumanIPO the company would conduct a full post-mortem and look at ways to prevent such disruption to customers in future.
“We continue to invest in adding new routes and capacity to our network to improve diversity and resilience, especially for those customers utilising our IP Service,” he said. “Following this event we will conduct a thorough post-mortem and consider what other steps we may take.”
The latest news of impending full repairs comes after SEACOM announced on March 30 it had acquired capacity on other routes to restore service to customers.
