Gumtree team launch SA job site

A job collating website, powered by the team behind popular Gumtree.com, has been launched in South Africa with more than 50,000 live vacancies.

Adzuna, backed by venture capital firms Passion Capital, The Accelerator Group and Index Ventures, is the latest product from Andrew Hunter and Doug Monro, formerly of Gumtree as well as eBay and Zoopla.

The Adzuna brand has already proved popular in the UK and collates job posts by gathering data from job sites such as PNet, Career Junction, JobMail, JobSpace and Gumtree.

Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, said: “We believe the 4.5 million people out of work in South Africa are underserved by the tools currently available in the market.

“Our aim is to arm job seekers in South Africa with all the information they need to find their perfect job.”

Adzuna say the 50,000 job vacancies on the site have an estimated earning potential of ZAR16.9 billion (US$1.8 billion).

The site’s social media plugin will also allow users to see jobs connected to their friends on Facebook or those they follow on Twitter and Linkedin.
