West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC), which carries wholesale broadband in Africa, has hired three professionals from the telecommunications sector to aid their development on the continent.
Darren Bedford, previously with PCCW, has taken on the role of Africa business development with specific responsibility for expanding WIOCC’s network coverage.
Martin Mutiira, formerly of Nokia Siemens Networks, has been appointed director of sales and will aim to grow WIOCC’s customer base.
Jason Tutty, from Reliance Globalcom, is the carrier’s new planning and operations director and will help carriers, telecoms, network operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to exploit the WIOCC network.
Chris Wood, WIOCC chief executive, said: “We are seeing increasing demand from businesses for diversity-rich, high-speed international connectivity to and from Africa. We are expanding our business development and sales teams in Africa to meet this demand.”
WIOCC’s network links 50,000km of African terrestrial fibre with multiple international submarine cables.
