Orange has partnered with Deezer Africa and European music site Zimbalam to promote African artists through the second edition of StarAfrica, which will encourage download and streaming of African music.
The contest will run through two phases, with the first already underway. From April 15 to May 31, artists can register on the dedicated site, StarAfrica.com, and offer an original song.
Phase two runs from May 31 to July 1, when users can vote for their favourite tune. The first five candidates who receive the highest number of votes will be ushered to the finals.
StarAfrica.com will then announce the ultimate winner on April 8 exclusively on their platform.
The winner will receive coverage on the StarAfrica and Deezer Africa, as well as a contract with an African music label.
The other four finalists will also receive prizes from Deezer, including a year of free access to their premium+ account and three albums on Zimbalam.org.
The previous edition of StarAfrica Sounds saw the participation of over 60 artists from 19 countries, with Kutchala Sutchi winning with the title “Gomanan”.
Deezer was launched recently in Africa as a music streaming service in partnership with Orange. The competition aims to help African artists to reach the global audience.
