Omobola Johnson, Nigeria’s communication technology minister, has officially launched the Nigerian government service portal in Abuja as part of the ministry’s bid to get “government online’’.
The portal is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and is available in English, French and Spanish.
Speaking at the launch, the minister said that through the portal the ministry is deploying ICT to drive transparency in governance in addition to improving the quality of public service delivery.
A statement made available to HumanIPO by the special adviser on media to the minister Efem Nkanga said the government service portal will make government services faster, cheaper and more personalised for citizens and businesses.
“[The portal] has a location directory of existing government services that are online and working with ministries of Agriculture, Education, Health, Industry, Trade and Investment and the ministry to automate ten processes,” the statement said.
From the portal, users can now access processes such as Trademark and Patent registration, Registration and Accreditation of Seed companies, Seed Import and Export Permit, Evaluation and Accreditation of Certificates, School Inspection Reports, Acquisition of License for Class type license, individual type license and Spectrum License and Farmer’s Registration.
The event was attended by stakeholders including Ibrahim Shehu Gusua, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on ICT, the director generals of agencies, representatives of the Ministries of Industry Trade and Investment, Health, Education and Agriculture, heads of MDAs, Nigeria Customs Service and top management staff of the ministry.
