One Kenyan Member of Parliament (MP) has already started to induct teachers in his constituency into ICT as the country awaits the implementation of new president Uhuru Kenyatta’s promise to provide free laptops to school children.
Paul Koinange, the current legislator for Kiambaa constituency, is to take all education practitioners in his area through an ICT induction meeting.
“Starting Friday, I will inspect all the schools to assess what needs to be done so I can start renovating and making learning environments conducive for pupils and students,” he said, as reported by the Star newspaper.
The MP said he will also build a polytechnic to help young men get vital training in technical subjects, including ICT.
The Jubilee Coalition had promised in their manifesto to introduce a programme that will see every pupil joining Class One in Kenya receive a solar powered laptop.
This ambitious venture has attracted both criticism and praise, with the programme expected to cost the government billion of shillings.
