More than 2,000 pages of evidence allegedly supporting corruption accusations against South Africa communications minister Dina Pule have been submitted to parliament’s ethics committee.
HumanIPO reported in March Pule had been accused by the Sunday Times of allowing her alleged boyfriend, Phosane Mngqibisa, of influencing appointments at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and other government-related departments.
Marian Shinn, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) shadow communications minister, has also laid criminal charges against Pule, which the minister denies.
Now Independent Newspapers has reported parliament’s committee have more than 2,000 pages of evidence against Pule as it is set to launch an investigation into her conduct.
The original committee investigation was opened to look into allegations of financial irregularities concerning the Department of Communications’ hosting of the ICT indaba last year, with millions of rand in sponsorship reportedly going missing.
Ben Turok, joint chairman of the committee, said: “It is quite complicated. I am sitting with over 2 000 pages of material that I have to go through. There are many allegations (against Pule). The minister has been summoned and so have other witnesses. But we will meet in closed sessions.”
A closed hearing is already scheduled for later this month.
