Korean agency to fund Rwandan ICT centre

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has signed an agreement with the Rwandan Ministry of Youth and ICT to build an innovation centre in Kigali.

The ICT park will cost the Korean agency up to US$5.6 million and will be set up at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre in the capital.

According to Rwanda Focus, the agreement signed will cover an ICT development roadmap on ICT human resources and incubation development in Rwanda. The Korean agency will also provide ICT equipment needed for the implementation of the project.

“This is a key milestone that is taking us to the Vision 2020 in which Rwanda is determined to become a knowledge-based economy,” Rosemary Mbabazi, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth and ICT, said.

She added the construction of the ICT park will start next year and take up to two and a half years to complete.

“This is the symbol of cooperation between Rwanda and Korea,” Sangchul Kim, resident representative of KOICA said. “I believe that this will help job creation in the ICT area, ICT human resource development and capacity building, and in the end contribute to Vision 2020.”
