The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has launched an international gateway measuring project to monitor telecommunications traffic, in a bid to more accurately tax telecom companies.
LTA Chairperson, Angelique Weeks, said the project would realise new revenue for the government through the streamlining of taxation, with LTA Commissioner estimating this may total between US$5 million and US$7 million annually.
The system is also expected to improve the telecommunications service and cut fraud cases.
“Telecommunication is one of the biggest catalysts to economic growth. In at-least developed country like Liberia, it ranks high. So we must do all we can to make the best of the telecommunication sector in Liberia to the benefit of the government and people in Liberia,” Weeks is quoted as saying by the New Democrat.
