Network Radio to broadcast live from 88mph Demo Day

Fast growing internet station Network Radio will be broadcasting live from the 88mph Demo Day in Cape Town on Thursday, as it bids to become the ‘go-to’ network for shows on the startup and entrepreneur scene in South Africa.

Herman Tefo started Network Radio around one year ago and broadcasts a two hour show every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1pm where he discusses South Africa’s small business and entrepreneur environment and interviews experts.

Tefo also takes the station on the road to events where the station broadcasts live, allowing listeners from around the world to tune in.

On Thursday, Tefo will be broadcasting live from the 88mph Demo Day, held in the Woodstock Exchange from 3pm to 6.30pm.

Speaking to HumanIPO, he said: “I first tried to do one live streaming event once a month just to expose the brand to different audiences.

“But in terms of events in the entrepreneurship ecosystem that is where we want to be most of the time.”

At Demo Day, there will be 10 startups pitching for follow-on investment and Tefo hopes to take the opportunity to find out a little more about how an investor’s mind ticks.

Tefo added: “People are quite interested to hear how startups pitch, especially to investors and in an event of this magnitude.

“We would be interested to hear from the investors before and possibly after the pitches. We hope to ask them how and when they make decisions. Do they go on gut instinct, see a person they believe in and go for it, or are they more measured?”

Tefo’s first business was Dash Media, which he founded in 2006, but his passion for radio and interest in small businesses naturally led him to create Network Radio, currently based at the TSiBA Ignition Centre, in Pinelands, Cape Town.

While his shows currently focus on the South African business scene, Tefo said they are already capturing listeners from across the continent and beyond with the ambition being to expand in the future.
