Samsung experiments with mind-controlled tablet

Samsung, along with US researchers, is experimenting with a mind-controlled tablet, seeking to change the way people interact with their devices.

Lead researcher Insoo Kim told MIT Technology Review that the transition to thought control was a natural one in terms of device interaction.

“Several years ago, a small keypad was the only input modality to control the phone, but nowadays the user can use voice, touch, gesture and eye movement to control and interact with mobile devices,” Kim said.

“Adding more input modalities will provide us with more convenient and richer ways of interacting with mobile devices.”

The firm has demonstrated how people can launch an app and make selections on a tablet by concentrating on a blinking icon, if users where a cap studded with EEG-monitoring electrodes.
