Microsoft and Toyota team up to create smart cars

Microsoft and Toyota have teamed up to bring about an internet service linking home computers and smartphones to cars, allowing users to connect with social networks and locate tourist areas.

The internet service will start on May 30 in Japan and is described as an advanced version of Toyota’s existing internet service, Gazoo.com.

It will be based on Microsoft’s cloud computing platform called Windows Azure.

Microsoft said this will be the first time cloud technology is being used for a major corporate site.

News24 reported that Gazoo users had tripled to 1.65 million during the course of the last five years.

Toyota said it hopes to raise this number to two million over the course of next year.
