First Nigerian Bloggers Fair held in Lagos

Fifty top writers selected from across Nigeria attended the first Nigerian Bloggers Fair at the weekend, discussing the theme ‘Blogging Profitability’.

The two-day event was sponsored by Fidelity Bank Plc, in partnership with Nokia and Google.

Welcoming participants to the event Uche Ogbonna, the bank’s head of community relations, said they had decided to organise the fair as a way of equipping the nation’s exceptional bloggers with the right tools and skills to excel in their chosen vocation.

He later told HumanIPO that the fair is an important aspect of Fidelity Bank’s numerous Community Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at giving back to the society irrespective of whether the beneficiaries have accounts with them.

Reginald Ihejiahi, chief executive and managing director of Fidelity Bank, said the theme was chosen because it is expected that every media operator must have an objective.

“We chose it because every media operator must have an objective, the accomplishment of which is the profit. And if it is not achieving that profit either by way of financial returns or propagation of ideas, then it is indeed not profitable,” Ihejiahi said.

Speakers on the first day of the event was Noble Chibuzor Igwe, founder of 360nobs.com

He discussed six ways through which bloggers can drive traffic to their websites and Opeyemi Awoyemi, co-founder of Whogohost and Jobberman who spoke on Blog Hosting: Opportunities and Challenges.

On the second day, top blogger and social media activist, Japhet Omojuwa spoke on “Bloggers influencing a new generation”, Uche Eze, founder of Bella Naija, gave a talk on  “Making your Blog profitable”.

Mayor Esiaba, consumer engagement manager for Nokia West Africa and Central Africa gave a presentation on “Blogging technology: What you must know”.
